If you didn't know already, I will be leaving for a couple months to go to high school in Australia. I will be staying with a host family in Hobart, Tasmania an island of the southern coast of Australia. I started a separate blog for my travels in Australia because running one blog wasn't enough for me to handle as is. The link to the blog is, 9429milesaway.wordpress.com. You should all check it out because I'm going to be posting there all the time with awesome pictures and videos. Since I'm not going to be using this blog as much for awhile, I thought that it would be nice to do a last impromptu photo shoot before I left, so here are a couple pictures my mother and I took this previously this evening.

Snow Days
Nothing is better during the school year then waking up to a fresh coat of snow and the news that you have the whole day to lounge around your house in your pajamas. From listening to music, watching Netflix, going sledding, reading (ok probably not reading, lets be real here), and eating everything in your fridge; I think we all can agree that snow days are the best days.
Here are some highlights from my snow day:

Color and Texture: The United States Botanical Garden
Every time I go into D.C. I am reminded of how wonderful and beautiful the city is. After visiting the city for either a hockey game or a quick visit to a museum, I always end up asking myself why I don't go into the city more often. Last night I found myself lost on my way back home to the dreadful suburbs from Ebenezer's, a coffee place in North East end of D.C. Usually I would be annoyed by my lack of direction and irritated when Kendra's directions lead me down a one way road, but this time it was hard to be angry when the faulty directions led me to the grand and beautiful Union Station lit up lavishly at midnight. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that it seems no matter where I turn, there are so many beautiful, special places in D.C. and the United States Botanical Garden is no exception. Each plant is so unique, quirky and captivating. Although the building is mostly a vision of green, there are a couple plants that I found that were magnificent, unlike anything I have ever seen.

Precious Portraits
Bonjour friends! First, I would like to apologize for not posting in awhile, as there hasn't been much to take pictures of lately. The world has been quite boring photography wise, which was okay with me because otherwise life has been quite filled with excitement. I got accepted into Boston University which was my top choice. I also graduate high school in 20 days! It feels like just yesterday I was a puny little freshman taking the bus to school and actually doing my homework right when I got home. I still shudder when I think about about the days I wore Uggs and leggings every to school every single day. Okay so maybe I still wear leggings every day, but they are just so damn convenient!
Anyways last week, I did manage to stay after school and take pictures of my friend Gabby. While browsing the pictures you might ask yourself, "Is that her actual eye color or is Fiona that good at Photoshop?" To which I would answer, "Yes, I am that good at Photoshop and yes, that is her real eye color." Life isn't fair like that sometimes. Enjoy!
Also shout out to my fellow Jews, Happy Hanukkah!
Some silly pictures because well, why not?

Bits of Beauty
The world can certainly be ugly. Life itself can be dark and unpleasant. Finding the small bits of beauty in your everyday humdrum can turn a gloomy day into one that's little brighter. Look around. I’m sure you pass by the same houses, street signs, trees and people everyday. Sometimes you forget to really look at your surroundings. There’s a house a block away from mine that I only recently noticed. Green shutters, farmhouse porch with twin rocking chairs, a white picket fence, framed by two evergreen trees. It’s adorable. I can't believe I never really saw it before. I’ve been happily surprised many times by just taking an extra minute to pay attention to the environment I’m constantly walking, running, and driving by. Here’s a collection of a few beautiful things I have seen by observing the world around me a little closer.
Stop and smell the roses! It can change your day around.
